Small Engine Technology Conference 2009 (SETC) HIGH QUALITY PAPER AWARDED TO SCION SPRAYS
Small Engine Technology Conference 2009 (SETC) HIGH QUALITY PAPER AWARDED TO SCION SPRAYS
Out of the 110 papers presented at SETC 2009 http://www.setc2009.com/, Scion-Sprays are proud and honored to have received the High Quality Paper award for our paper “Low Cost Electronic Fuel Injection for Motorcycles and Utility Engines”. A joint collaboration by our engineering team, the paper introduces and discusses the latest development and application of our novel engine management system (Pulse Count Injection, PCI), designed from the outset specifically for low cost small engines for motorcycles and utility applications
The paper details comparisons of the performance of the PCI system compared to carburetor and conventional EFI systems. With detailed results shown for;
- Fuel consumption comparison
- Engine out emission benefits
- Fuel flow comparison
- Cost reduction
The paper demonstrates the latest state of development of the PCI system technology, and conclusions are drawn from the test results showing the clear benefits of PCI fuel injection for both emissions and fuel consumption reduction when compared to carburetor systems. The paper also demonstrates that PCI performance is comparable to state-of-the-art small engine EFI system but available at half the cost.

With growing concern regarding global warming and other environmental issues, the theme for the Conference, “Small Engine Era - Pursuing a Society Less Dependent on Oil”, was chosen. The high standard of papers delivered during the Technical Sessions reflected this theme in the variety of topics covered which included advanced combustion, engine components, environmental impacts and motorcycle design.
The conference, which took place on the beautiful island of Penang, Malaysia, was attended by over 300 delegates representing 30 countries. We were particularly pleased with the interest in our stand and delighted to have the opportunity of demonstrating our product solution to new faces as well as catching up with old friends and bringing them up to date with our latest technical developments.
As part of the conference, Technical visits were organized to Continental AG and Modenas, both renowned companies in their field of automotive electronic components and motorcycles. The visit to Modenas was of particular interest as our EFI engine management system offers a product solution aimed at the small motorcycle, scooter and small multi-application engines market. We were also fortunate in having the opportunity to visit the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) where we were given a tour of the facilities and the exciting small engine programs by Dr H Gitano-Briggs.
We will be at SETC 2010, scheduled to take place in Linz, Austria from 28 – 30 September 2010.
