Acquisition to drive further growth at waste firm

Waste management company Pearsons Recycling is set for continued growth after acquiring part of a rival firm.

The company, which handles about 250,000 tonnes of waste per year, has bought the dry waste division of fellow Thetford firm Enviro-Waste for an undisclosed sum.

The sale follows a decision by Enviro-Waste to focus on developing its main liquid waste and tanker business.

The acquisition comes as Pearsons reports a record performance in the year ending April 30, which saw sales up slightly at £8.3m while profit doubled from the previous year to about £670,000.

The company, which employs 110, manages primarily dry commercial, industrial and construction waste through its Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in East Wretham and another base in Thetford.

Almost 90pc of waste dealt with at the MRF is recovered and diverted from landfill.

The acquisition will increase the amount of dry waste handled by the company by about 10,000 tonnes per year, helping generate further income.
