Engineering the region’s Future Growth
Over the next ten to fifteen years, the energy sector will see large scale investments and developments that will represent a multi-million pound set of opportunities for the engineering sector in the Norfolk, Suffolk and overall Eastern Region.
In recognition of this exceptional prospect for the region, the Engineering Future Growth (EFG) Exhibition and Conference at the Great Yarmouth Racecourse, 25th January 2012 has been organised to prepare businesses for the needs of the multi-faceted energy sector.
There is currently significant regional momentum in the energy sector with continuing large scale developments in such areas as; wind energy (both onshore and particularly offshore), wave and ocean energy, new nuclear build, further developments on gas, decommissioning of oil and gas installations, biomass and others.
Demonstrating the existing capabilities and potential of our region, Great Yarmouth is second only to Aberdeen in importance for the oil and gas industry in the UK and with over 40 years of offshore operational experience, local companies have developed leading edge skills and products with worldwide markets. Development also continues on renewable energies such as bio-diesel. As well as Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft is amongst those at the forefront of UK’s renewable energy challenge. Lowestoft Port provides a range of services for the offshore oil, gas, renewable energy industries. With more than £10billion being invested over the next 10 years around the East of England coastline on offshore renewable energy, the £9million Orbis Energy Centre will be central to this investment.
With this existing foundation and the incoming investments, the engineering community has a significant, long term opportunity to support and service the burgeoning energy community. EFG 2012 will take initiative and present to the region the potential of these new and ongoing demands and educate on the actions needed to be taken to raise the knowledge in the industry and improve the visibility of the needs of their target market sector. Featuring two conferences, they will advise businesses on how they can best prepare and plan for these phenomenal opportunities and guide them through the process of engaging with the relevant key industry players and decision makers.
As well as informing with EFG’s conference, the EFG exhibition will provide the stage to showcase just what our region has to offer for businesses at all levels in the supply chain with them demonstrating their services and capabilities to the presence of industry experts and enterprising local and national organisations.
Featuring the unique opportunity to optimise the potential of businesses and the local economy, EFG possess many advantages to raise the profile of businesses in the sector and encourage investment into the local economy. EFG can be the catalyst and the start of what can achieve for years to come and with this recognition, EFG has received support received support from The Norfolk and Suffolk Chambers of Commerce, EEEGR, The Crown Estate, Waveney District Council and Great Yarmouth Borough Council.
From EFG 2012 and the follow on actions from the region’s businesses, the aim will be for those involved to become fully aware of the demands of the energy sector and become ‘fit to supply’ on a consistent and dependable basis thus benefiting not only those involved but also the local economy.
